City of Liverpool 4-2 Barnton
10 man Villagers fall to defeat
The Villagers search for their first league win of the season continues as they were undone by a comeback from City of Liverpool on Saturday afternoon.
We raced into an early two goal lead thanks to fantastic efforts, the first coming from James McShane whose stunning effort left their keeper with no chance, ten minutes later Jack Woolley's audacious effort doubled our lead.
Going behind seemed to spark the home side into life and they played some excellent football at times and got themselves back into the game when Jamie McDonald finished smartly inside the area. And they were level right on half time when Luke Denson finished empathically from the penalty spot.
Half Time: City of Liverpool 2-2 Barnton
The second half saw the home team push on and they took the lead five minutes into the second half with Karl Noon getting finishing inside the area after we were undone by a quick corner.
As the game wore on we pushed higher and went close to levelling the game with George Manion and Sam Houghton going close with long range efforts. With 15 minutes left to play Rob Cooke was sent off on his Barnton debut when he was judged to have brought down the City of Liverpool striker who was through on goal, the dismissal meant that Callum Shuttlewood replaced Daniel O'Conner to also make his debut.
The home side finally killed off the game five minutes later with John McGrath getting his side's fourth of the afternoon.
Next up for the Villagers is a home game against West Didsbury & Chorlton on Wednesday evening with kick off at 7:45pm.
