Winsford United 1-1 Barnton
Villagers pick up successive draw
The Villagers picked up their second straight point on Saturday afternoon as they played out a 1-1 draw against local rivals Winsford United.
Once again manager Steve Lloyd was forced into changes with goalkeeper Chris Kiernan coming into the XI alongside George Manion and Ryan Malone who was making his first start of the season.
The early exchanges were scrappy with both sides struggling to build up any serious momentum and chances were a premium. Kiernan was called into action saving well from Ryan Steele’s low effort, and Winsford continued to probe but were unable to find a way through a determined Barnton backline.
But Barnton carried a threat on the break all afternoon with the trio of Malone, Jack Irlam and Chris Ba
ndell offering support to captain Chris Smith up front, and it was Bandell who opened the scoring with an excellent finish after a quick free kick.
Winsford’s Nathan Cotterell levelled the game on half time, after the Villagers had failed to deal with a corner.
Half Time: Winsford United 1-1 Barnton
The second half like most of the opening period saw both teams unable to retain possession and generate serious pressure.
The home side had perhaps the better of the second half chances with Sean Sherwood heading wide, and Niall Ford diverted a dangerous cross against the post.
Malone had a goal ruled out after he was harshly adjudged to be offside and the Villagers had a late shout for a penalty turned down.
The search for our first win of the season continues on Wednesday as we entertain Hanley Town with kick off at 7:45pm.
