Barnoldswick Town 0-2 Barnton
Villagers secure impressive double over Barnoldswick
Barnton picked up another three points on the road on Tuesday evening in their penultimate league game of the season.
Manager Steve Lloyd made a couple of changes from the draw with Maine Road on Saturday, with Ryan Broadhead, Adam Clayton, Callum Richards and Patrick Hamid all coming into the team.
Their hosts were playing their second game of the week having beaten Runcorn Town in impressive fashion on Monday evening they were quick out of the blocks and had the better of the opening exchanges in freezing conditions.
Ben Gorman was denied an opening goal for Barnoldswick thanks for a great tackle from Adam Clayton which allowed Matt Conkie to save well down low. A well worked corner from the hosts almost undid the Barnton backline but they held firm and Jack Woolley had our first chance of the game but fired just wide.
Just as it looked as if the Villagers would be looking to head into the break level they hit Barnoldswick with the perfect sucker punch. Patrick Hamid's effort from just inside the box hit the post and fell to Josh Crofts who finished smartly to put Barnton ahead.
The goal seemed to knock the stuffing out of the hosts as both sides played out the rest of opening period with little goal mouth action.
Half Time: Barnoldswick Town 0-1 Barnton
The second half was a reversal from much of the opening period with the Villagers dominating much of the second half as their hosts tired late on. Woolley had a chance well saved by their keeper after being put in on goal by Sam Houghton and Jason McShane fired wide and wide after getting on the end of a long punt forward from Broadhead.
Ryan Malone was denied late on with his attempt taking a deflection out for a corner, from the resulting corner the Villagers put the game to bed with Woolley applying the finish from Broadhead's header.
Late on Houghton had two golden chances to further extend our lead but he was unable to apply the finish when put through on goal by debutant Derek McShane.
Another key victory for the Villagers as they continue to finish the season strongly picking up 11 points from their last 6 games, and they finish their debut season at this level with another trip up North to take on Padiham.
