Villagers head to rivals in search of first win

The Villagers make the short trip to local rivals Winsford United on Saturday afternoon as they go in search of their first league win of the season.

Steve Lloyd’s men head into the clash on the back of picking up their second point of the season on Wednesday evening, as they played out a 1-1 draw against Congleton Town.

Speaking after the clash Lloyd was pleased with his side’s application on Wednesday: “That was much better, we were determined and what pleased me the most was how we responded to going behind early on.”

He added: “We knew we needed to be solid against Congleton and for large parts we contained them and we should’ve perhaps won it at the end. But we move onto Saturday, Winsford are bang in form and we know it will be a tough challenge.”

Having taken four points from their two league clashes last season, the Villagers will be heading to the Barton Stadium in search of their first win of the season.

Saturday’s clash is the first of 6 crucial league clashes in a month that also includes a home tie against Penistone Church in the FA Vase next weekend.

Kick off on Saturday is at 3pm – St Luke’s Barton Stadium - CW7 3AE

Team News:
Goalkeeper Chris Davies and Jordan Stafford are unavailable alongside long term absentees Josh Crofts and Jonny Jones.
