The lads have been back at it now for a couple of weeks and as we build up to the preseason kicking off on the pitch, we caught up with the new gaffer James McShane and got his thoughts.
“We’ve been now for over a week and it is really going well, the plan is to work the lads and ensure that we get the best out of them.”
Fitness is something McShane is looking to build on from last season: “I’m hoping we can be fitter as a team and as a result offer a greater threat late on in games and overall this will help us play an expansive and attractive style of football.”
McShane has added a few familiar faces to his backroom staff with Gary Moore joining as assistant manager, with former Chester FC keeper Adam Judge joining as goalkeeper coach alongside Liam Moore who will take up a position as first team coach.
“Having experience around me is key, I trust the lads and know they have my back and this is important if we are to be competitive next season, as a management group we just cannot wait to get going.”
McShane has spent the off season tying down players for the new season and he has so far managed to retain the services of key players including Chris Smith, Ryan Malone, Josh Crofts, Paddy Hamid and Niall Ford. Elsewhere youngsters Arron Lyons, Derek McShane, Callum Richards, Dom Bazley and Rob Arnold have all signed on for the new campaign.
McShane is also continuing to push for new additions and further signings will be confirmed in the coming weeks.
As for the action on the field Saturday’s clash away to Helsby has fallen foul of the weather with the pitch deemed unplayable due to the dry spell we’ve had recently.
