Villagers bounce back to pick up away win

A second half double from captain Sam Houghton and an effort from Luke Wilson-Jones ensured that the Villagers picked up all three points away to Cheadle Town on Saturday afternoon.

Having been beaten away to rock bottom Stone Dominoes on Tuesday evening, James McShane's responded to the defeat in the perfect manner with an impressive display.

The Villagers started the brighter of the two teams with the returning Jordan Cobley being denied by a smart save from Daniel Whiting in the Cheadle net, and Whiting was on hand to deny Houghton's effort from the resulting corner.

The home side got themselves into the contest and finished the first half on top and the Villagers had Owen Dursley to thank as he cleared an effort off the line, before Robert Wallis' effort was dragged wide after he'd been allowed through on goal.

Cheadle then had the ball in the ball in the net before the half time whistle but Ben Brooks' effort was ruled out for offside.

Half Time: Cheadle Town 0-0 Barnton

The home side should have taken the lead seconds into the second half but Rhys Clooney somehow put his effort wide.

It was a let off that the Villagers took full advantage of when Wilson-Jones gave his the lead after making the most a defensive mix up as he applied an excellent finish.

Ten minutes later it got better for the Villagers when Houghton was brought down by Whiting as he looked to round to round the Cheadle keeper and, it was Houghton who stepped up to emphatically double his side's lead from the spot.

Ten minutes later Cheadle captain Matt German was dismissed after picking up a second yellow and after he eventually made his way off the pitch the Villagers took full control of the contest.

Late on Cobley and Leon Wright went close with efforts before Houghton got his second and Barnton's third at the death after some fantastic work from Wright.
