Cammell Laird 2-6 Barnton

By Niall Owens

Villagers pick up crucial three points on the road

Barnton travelled up to Birkenhead hoping to turn round a four game losing run Lairds started the better and Arran Lyons had to be at his best to stop Ryan Burke early on.

But it was the Villagers who took the lead when a great cross from Luke Wilson-Jones found Ryan Malone and his left foot volley flew into the top corner. The lead was doubled when after some neat inter play Lee Guirado crossed for Jordan Cobley to side foot home

Half Time Cammell Laird 0-2 Barnton

In the second half the strong wind was causing both sides problems but on 58 minutes the Lairds keeper Thomas White inexplicably shoved the ball into Cobley's face and the referee pointed to the penalty spot which resulted in Sam Houghton firing home.

Despite the early second half blow Lairds got themselves back into the game when Josh Connelly fired home from 20 yards and within two minutes Paul Byrne added another.

But the Barnton responded superbly and Malone burst through to make it 4-2 and late goals goals from Houghton and Wilson-Jones completed the rout.
