Villagers head into cup clash looking for first win

We kick off our FA Vase campaign on Saturday afternoon as we welcome Penistone Church to Townfield Lane.

We head into the contest with the North East Counties Premier Division side on the back of a tough 5-1 league defeat at home to Hanley Town on Wednesday evening and still in search of our first win of the season.

Speaking after the defeat on Wednesday manager Steve Lloyd was not making any excuses: “We know we’ve got to improve and we have to take responsibility.”
He added: “We’ve got to battle and stick at it we have a better squad than last season but there’s no excuse for some of mistakes we’ve made recently.”

In terms of personnel Lloyd is able to call upon long term absentee Peter Aidley in the only addition to Wednesday night’s squad.

As for our opponents, Penistone have picked up 4 points from their opening 7 games but have excelled in the FA Cup and were drawn to face Harrogate Town in the 2nd Qualifying Round of the FA Cup later this month.

They defeated Whitby Town in a five goal thriller thanks to a late winner from Andrew Ring and will head across to Barnton in great cup form.

Kick off on Saturday is at 3:00pm get down to the ground and support the lads as they try and create a little piece of Barnton history.
