A look ahead to our massive derby clash

Barnton welcome 1874 Northwich to the Hinchliffe Holmes stadium on Wednesday evening in their rearranged derby clash.

The Villagers head into this huge clash on the back of a frustrating 4-1 defeat to Runcorn Town on Sunday evening. Speaking after the game manager Steve Lloyd pulled no punches: “The second half performance was not acceptable, we were not able to do the basics. I refuse to limp towards the finish line, a reaction is required and Wednesday is the perfect chance to react in a positive manner.”

A positive result on Wednesday will ensure that the Villagers remain in the top flight and will cap off a remarkable turnaround for a team who looked certain to go down in October.

There will be a number of players involved this weekend who have played for both clubs, keeper Matt Conkie and Captain Jack McKay have turned out for 1874 along with Ryan Broadhead, Jack Woolley and Josh Crofts.

McKay explained the importance of the derby and about playing against his former club: “There are a number of factors which make it a big however the fact that it's a local derby and the support that Northwich 1874 have make the game massive for us and we are looking forward to the game full of confidence.”

He added: “It's always good playing against old clubs as any player will tell you however it does make the game a big one. A few of the lads have previously played for 1874 so I know they will be right up for the challenge as will all of the lads!”

As for our visitors, 1874 have confirmed the appointment of Paul Bowyer and Wayne Goodison as joint managers following the resignation of long term manager Ian Street last month.

They also head into the clash of the back of an impressive 4-1 victory away to Winsford United on Monday afternoon, and have picked up 8 points from their last 15 available.

Team News:

Lloyd is able to call upon Jack McKay again after he missed the weekend's game against Runcorn Town, along with Dom Bazley he is the only addition to the match day squad.

Kick off on Wednesday evening is at 7:45pm.
