Villagers fall to defeat in tough conditions

The Villagers endured a frustrating afternoon as they feel to defeat to an in-form Stone Alleynians side on Saturday afternoon at the Offside Trust stadium.

Despite the tough weather conditions both sides played their part in what was an entertaining contest, but it was Alleynians striker Jack Tomlinson who made the difference, as he put Villagers to the sword with a terrific hat trick for the visitors.

Defender come striker, Ste Rothwell got his side off to a perfect start as he was on hand to give the Villagers the lead early on after he’d linked up well with Lee Guirado.

The response from the visitors was emphatic with Tomlinson bundling in the ball from inside the six-yard box after the Barnton defence had failed to deal with a dangerous corner.

The Villagers then retook the lead with Guirado finishing off a well worked move, as within moments Alleynians got themselves back level with Michael Williams scoring, before Tomlinson got his second goal of the afternoon to gap of a crazy period that saw four goals in just six minutes of play.

It was a lead that the visitors would not relinquish, and they finished the opening half on top with Arran Lyons called into action right on half time deny them a fourth.

The conditions really took a hold on the game during the second half with the wind and rain having a big impact.

Despite the Alleynians controlling the contest the Villagers continued to push with Rothwell going close before sub Ryan Malone’s effort was blocked off the line by one of his own players.

The inevitable sucker punch arrived with just over 15 minutes left to play when Tomlinson completed his hat trick with a well taken first time effort.

Lyons produced a string of saves late on, as the visitors finished the contest well on top and eventually held out to take all three points and complete a league double against James McShane’s men.
