The Villagers kicked off the new season by picking up all three points on Saturday afternoon against newly promoted St Martins.
Steve Warburton’s second half strike was enough to give James McShane’s men the start they deserved after a summer of changes on and off the field.
The game got off to a quick start with the visitors going close with a couple of efforts, including an effort that hit the woodwork. The Villagers grew into the contest with Sam Houghton forcing a smart save from the visiting keeper.
St Martins thought they’d made the breakthrough just before the break but their goal was correctly ruled out for offside.
Half Time: 0-0
The second half saw the Villagers take control of the contest and took the lead before the hour mark. Warburton was on hand to head home from inside the area.
St Martins continued to carry a threat on the break but were unable to break past a determined and organised Barnton defence.
Barnton made life hard for themselves during the final stages when Houghton was dismissed after picking up his second yellow of the game.
Thankfully the Villagers were able to see out the game and pick up all three points to get the season off to a perfect start.
