A second half strike from Matthew Rigby was enough to secure a first win since early January for the Villagers as they edged past New Mills at the Offside Trust Stadium on Saturday.
It looked as if it would be another fruitless afternoon for James McShane’s men after they had toiled during a first half that saw the visitors have the better of the play, but Rigby’s excellent first time effort ensured that his side picked up a crucial three points.
It was New Mills who had the best chances of the first half with Anthony Molloy on hand early on to clear Joe Rothwell’s effort off the line after he’d rounded Arran Lyons.
Forward Lee Guirado almost broke the deadlock just before half time but he was denied by Stuart Morrison in the New Mills net after he’d attempted to round him.
Half Time: Barnton 0-0 New Mills
The second half got off to the perfect start for McShane’s men with Rigby’s emphatic finish giving his side a lead that they would not give up.
Despite threatening on the break the away side were unable to find their way to goal with Niall Ford clearing an effort off the line, but it was the Villagers who finished up the game on top.
Man of the Match Ryan Wan saw his effort cleared off the line before another effort from distance was held by Morrison.
Despite not getting the cushion that a second goal would’ve given them the Villagers did see the game out in relative ease and they picked up a big three points.
Next up is a trip to bottom of the league Stone Dominoes on Tuesday evening with kick off at 7:45pm.
