The Villagers paid the price for a poor second half performance as they fell to a second straight 4-0 defeat this time to Northwich Victoria.
In a lively opening period it was Barnton who had the first chance of the game, when Jack Irlam forced Vics keeper Michael Donlan into a smart stop, before Josh Crofts’ effort from distance was easily held by Donlan.
The opening goal came 10 minutes before the break when Brian Matthews got on the end of a superb cross from Daniel Johnson, Matthews almost doubled the Vics advantage moments later but his effort went just over.
But the Villagers should have headed into the break level but Brandon Moores dragged his effort wide after he’d been played through clean on goal, before captain Jason McShane fired wide.
Half Time: Barnton 0-1 Northwich Victoria
Matthews got his and Northwich’s second goal of the game five minutes into the second half as his effort was too strong for Cooke in the Barnton net.
Doubling their lead gave the away side the confidence they needed as pushed on with Matthews going close again with a header hitting the top of the bar.
Matthews did eventually complete his hat trick and it was thanks for Johnson who once again laid on a perfect assist to put the game beyond the Villagers.
Oscar Durban’s outstanding effort late on wrapped up the goal scoring for the afternoon as the Vics made it 4-0 late on.
