The Villagers fell to a narrow defeat on Saturday afternoon as they were beaten by Cammell Laird 1907 at the Offside Trust.
There was very little to separate the two sides, but Colm Lynch’s first half header was enough to ensure that the away side walked away with all three points.
Macron Player of the Month for the league Leon Wright had the Villagers best opportunity of the opening half, but the youngster fired just over when he found himself through on goal. The let off sparked the visitors into life with Thomas Murray first forcing Arran Lyons into a smart stop before they took the lead on the half hour mark.
Lynch’s looping header left Lyons with no chance after he’d got on the end of a superb free kick from the lively Tom Hackett. Lyons then was on hand just before half time as he denied Lynch a second and then Elliott Jones struck the woodwork from the resulting corner.
Half Time: Barnton 0-1 Cammell Laird 1907
The second half saw the visitors control the tempo and they threatened regularly, Rob Ablewhite hit both posts before Lyons recovered well to keep his side in the game.
A late push from the Villagers was not enough to force a leveller with Ste Rothwell being denied a goal against his former side with Paul Davies pulling off a superb save late on.
That was as good as it got for the Villagers as the visitors saw the game out late on and secured their first league win since October.
